About the Role

Do you enjoy breaking down complex business problems, working with senior stakeholders, and translating AI possibilities into measurable business outcomes?

As an AI Business Consultant Intern, you will help clients identify where AI can create meaningful value and translate those opportunities into practical transformation initiatives. You will analyse business priorities, economics, processes, and performance; shape and prioritise AI use cases; and work with business, data, product, and engineering teams from discovery through proof of value.

This is a business-led consulting role, not a software engineering or AI research internship. Most of your work will focus on structured problem solving, business and value analysis, client communication, and solution shaping. You will not be expected to train models or build production software, but you must understand AI and data well enough to engage technical teams, assess feasibility, and explain trade-offs clearly to business leaders.

Projects will primarily span transport and logistics, industrial manufacturing, energy and utilities, built environments, and other asset-intensive operations, with use cases across energy transition, operational improvement, resilience, and commercial growth.

Key Responsibilities

Business Problem Solving & Value Identification

  • Support client discovery through industry and company research, business analysis, meeting preparation, and participation in client discussions and workshops.

  • Break down client business models, P&Ls, operating processes, and KPIs to identify pain points, value pools, and improvement opportunities.
  • Develop structured problem statements, issue and value-driver trees, financial models, and quantitative business cases with guidance from the team.
  • Analyse client, operational, and market data to test hypotheses, size value at stake, and support evidence-based recommendations.

AI Use-Case Translation & Solution Shaping

  • Translate business needs into clearly defined AI use cases, prioritised opportunity roadmaps, and measurable business outcomes.

  • Define each use case across the business decision or workflow, users, data inputs, AI approach, human oversight, success metrics, adoption requirements, and expected value.

  • Partner with AI, data, product, engineering, and domain teams to assess data readiness, technical feasibility, delivery requirements, risks, and business impact.

  • Build a practical understanding of relevant AI capabilities and industry applications, and communicate their benefits, limitations, and trade-offs in clear business language.

Client Communication & Value Delivery

  • Develop client-ready proposals, executive presentations, workshop materials, recommendations, and value-sharing or commercial models.

  • Support client workshops and working sessions, synthesising discussions into clear decisions, actions, and follow-up analyses.
  • Support pilots and proofs of value by defining milestones, business KPIs, adoption requirements, and impact measurement plans.
  • Coordinate key dependencies and deliverables across client stakeholders and internal business and technical teams and surface issues requiring resolution.
  • Use AI and analytics tools responsibly to improve the speed and quality of research, analysis, modelling, and content development.

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Business, Economics, Finance, Operations, Engineering, Business Analytics, Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field. We value demonstrated cross-disciplinary ability more than a specific degree title.

  • Demonstrated consulting-style problem solving: able to structure an ambiguous question, form hypotheses, conduct analysis, and turn findings into practical recommendations.
  • Strong business and quantitative grounding, with the ability to interpret business models, P&Ls, operating processes, and KPIs and connect them to value creation.
  • Practical AI fluency is required. You should understand core concepts such as machine learning versus generative AI, LLMs and agents, data requirements, model evaluation, and common risks and limitations well enough to collaborate with technical teams. Deep AI research or production-level coding is not required.
  • Strong working proficiency in PowerPoint and Excel, with the ability to translate complex analysis into concise, executive-ready written materials and presentations.
  • Comfortable working with data. Exposure to SQL, Python, Power BI, Tableau, or similar tools is useful, but coding depth is not a substitute for business judgement and communication skills.
  • Relevant experience through consulting, strategy, product, business analytics, operations transformation, case competitions, or client-facing projects is strongly preferred.
  • Curious, diligent, and comfortable learning unfamiliar business, technical, and industry topics.
  • Strong written and spoken English is required; Mandarin is an advantage.

What You’ll Gain

  • First-hand exposure to how enterprises identifyprioritise, and implement high-value AI opportunities.

  • Experience connecting business strategy, operational realities, data and AI possibilities, and financial impact.

  • Opportunities to participate in client and leadership discussions and learn how executive-level decisions are shaped.

  • Hands-on collaboration with business, AI, data, product, engineering, and domain experts across the transformation lifecycle.

  • Practical experience producing consulting-quality analyses, business cases, financial models, executive presentations, and project deliverables.

  • A strong foundation for future careers in AI consulting, management consulting, AI strategy, product strategy, business analytics, or technology transformation.
